ACTivating Your Practice - An Acceptance & Commitment Therapy Workshop (Part 4) Dr Richard Bennett and Dr Dawn Johnson

So, you dipped your toe and went back for more. You did some intermediate level training and filled your swim bag with ACT goodies. And now your ready to don the wetsuit and join us for a deep dive, out there in the beautiful ACT ocean. Welcome! It's good to be swimming with you! By now you'll be immersed in the core processes and you'll be aware of some techniques that effect change in yourselves and your clients. So, whether you're feeling stuck, hungry for even more of the good stuff, or feeling out of your depth and want some more learning, welcome to part four of this workshop series!

ACT and the wider contextual behavioural sciences aim to reduce human suffering, not by taking away any of the difficult content, but by changing the relationship we have with our difficult content. In part four of this workshop series, we're well and truly swimming off shore. We're ramping up the understanding of theory-practice links and helping you practice more in-depth skills and techniques to help you and your clients move in directions that matter.

During this four-session online workshop you will:

  • Consolidate your existing knowledge of ACT’s psychological flexibility model
  • Further explore Relational Frame Theory and its clinical applications
  • Develop functional analysis by applying the behavioural principle to in-session behaviours
  • Experience and consider the application of self acceptance and self compassion for you and your clients
  • Observe live demonstrations and then practice specific techniques in small learning groups

The workshop will be highly interactive, involving a variety of methods including didactic teaching, experiential exercises, group work, and live/video demonstrations of therapeutic interventions. Please note, as the sessions are largely experiential, you will get the most out of them if you attend live and are able to participate in the practical exercises. Whilst the teaching and demonstration parts of the workshop are recorded, the small group practice sessions in the breakout rooms are not.

Eligibility

This workshop is aimed at people who are working with others in any kind of caring/helping capacity, with the intent to make behaviour changes. It would be best suited to those who have previously completed some intermediate ACT training, such as our ACTivating Your Practice (Parts 2 & 3) courses, or something equivalent. We will assume that you have knowledge of the ACT model and have used the approach in some of your life and/or work.

Previous feedback for this workshop

“Fantastic! Thank you for the theory and experiential learning. It will be so valuable in my everyday life and as a practitioner”

“I have always been put off ACT because of the jargon - this is really accessible and really helpful to my work in so many ways"

“The course leaders repeating things like "I'm noticing..". Really helped me cement the ACT language in my mind"

“I was very uncomfortable at the thought of the experiential learning but was actually really useful and some of the things we've learned on the course have already helped me get over that fear!"

“Once again I appreciated the openess of Dawn and Richard and how they worked together.

“Really helpful to practice skills and reflect on them in the session. Great to watch demos first”

“Lots of powerful and consolidating videos, metaphors and examples. I cried at least twice so that's a decent measure of connection to the content I reckon. The value for money really is excellent - which is important too"

“The breakout room was brilliant... totally terrifying (especially for a total non-therpist) but so useful and fantastic practice. thank you (and gr8 opportunity to practice my own ACT skills!)"
