Think Psychology has been providing expert witness services since 2004. In that time we have provided expert psychological reports and oral evidence in both criminal and family court cases. The majority of court experience relates to criminal cases and in the preparation of reports both prior to trial and sentencing. Typically, Think Psychology is asked to prepare expert reports in criminal or family court cases where the client has a history of mental illness, personality disorder, cognitive impairment, or other emotional or psychological disturbance. In addition to addressing any specific instructions, the reports tend to comment on the relationship between the above factors and the client's behaviour, suggesting options for minimising future risk, either to themselves or to others.
In addition to providing expert evidence to the court, our extensive experience of working clinically in forensic mental health care has led to instructions to provide reports and oral evidence in other settings, including for Parole Board hearings, Mental Health Review Tribunals, and the Probation Service.
