Andrea Hughes is a BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with over 13 years of experience of working within varied NHS mental health services. Andrea provides a compassionate, supportive, non-judgemental space for people to share their experiences and difficulties, to make sense of how they have been feeling and to collaboratively work towards a more valued driven life. Andrea feels passionate about CBT treatment, and has years of witnessing clients reaching their potential and living the life they want to live through their therapy journeys. Andrea’s genuine curiosity and care allows for therapy to be experienced as safe, containing and supports change.
Andrea currently works as a Lecturer and Supervisor on the Postgraduate Diploma in CBT at the University of Birmingham and also works on the Postgraduate Diploma in CBT at Canterbury Christchurch University. Andrea enjoys teaching, supervising and developing trainee CBT therapists, thus contributing to the future of the field of psychological therapy.
As a CBT therapist, Andrea specialises in working with people who may be experiencing Depression or Anxiety, including Health Anxiety, Generalised Anxiety (excessive worry), Social Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Low self-esteem, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Post traumatic Stress Disorder. Andrea is also a trained and experienced EMDR therapist (Eye-Movement De-sensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy). Andrea has attended training in third-wave approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, and Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT), and her practice is often informed by these approaches.
